How to replace an actuator valve on central heating systems?
I’m wanting to replace a Danfoss HSA3 Actuator (Electrically Operated Valve) on my central heating system as it has seized up. I have a replacement to fit but would like some instructions on how to do it. For instance if I unscrew the actuator but leave the backing plate attached will water leak. I am plotting to isolate the electrics and water.

i would call a plumber out if i were you , just to be on the safe side.

Turn off the main isolation switch to your c/h system. trace the wires back to the wiring centre , check with an appropriate meter that the electrics is isolated , and swap the wires colour for colour. If you remove the 2 screws attaching the actuator to the head you will be perfectly ok to remove it. and water will not come out of the backing plate, no need to isolate the water. Sometimes the spindle on these valves seizes up so when you have the actuator off, just make sure its free by turning back and forward with a pair of grips. if its solid the whole body needs replacing which will require your system to be drained.

I agree with cupman, but it’s probably the seized up valve body that has caused the actuator to burn out in the first place.I hope for your sake it hasn’t as you will have to drain and refill and vent system.. Excellent luck.

Why are you trying to do this yourself.
Chaps are right , actuator burn out is caused by resistance ….usually valve is stuck because of debris.
sir you need your system cleaned and a new valve and head fitted please expect the pump and its valves also to expire shortly due to the sludge in your system.
But hey I am a robbing plumber ……….whats that you say………you did it yourself………excellent man!
    Lol
    been a long day
